Boots are another “can’t live without them” item in the winter wardrobe. I don’t think most people would argue this point. If you live in a cold, snowy, or rainy area, chances are you’re wearing boots during the winter months. In the PNW, it was mostly wet during the winter and I was primarily concerned about boots that would keep my feet dry…aka waterproof. And though I wanted my feet to be warm, I relied more upon these to do that than the boot itself.
Here, in NY, where it doesn’t rain as much, I need my boots to be waterproof AND warm. In my first year here I bought fleece-lined Sorels and while I love them, I still need to wear toe warmers to prevent my feet from freezing.
But a couple of years ago, I inadvertently discovered the key to keeping my feet warm during the winter without toe warmers or thick socks. I got these adorable hiking boots during the summer of 2021 and I wore them as the weather got colder and colder and then one day in January I realized I hadn’t used any toe warmers that year. My mind was blown. When I say I relied on toe warmers to get me through the winter months, I’m talking almost every day for months on end. The fact that I hadn’t used ANY up to that point was amazing.
Enter the thick-soled boot. A thick sole keeps your feet higher off the ground and further away from the cold. Simple but massively effective. Why didn’t I know that?! 😆 Since then I bought these Doc Martens Chelsea boots and I adore them. They keep my feet warm without needing thick socks or toe warmers. They are so cute with skirts and dresses. And they’re super comfortable once you break them in. They also have a fur lined option if you want to up the cozy factor. 🤩
If you’re struggling with keeping those toes nice and toasty, get yourself some thick-soled boots. You will be so happy for it!
