aloe vera plant

Another all-time favorite house plant…Aloe Vera. If you don’t have an Aloe plant, you should. Here’s why!

Aloe is one of the top plants for purifying the air in your home. It doesn’t require a lot of water so is great for beginners. And its leaves contain a gel that works WONDERS for your skin. If you live in a warm location, this plant will be your skin BFF on those days you spend a little too much time in the sun. I have experienced this more times than I would like to admit and Aloe always does the trick. You have to be willing to be uncomfortable and sticky while it soaks into your skin, but if you keep applying it in layers after a sunburn, rest assured your burn will be gone the next day. It’s a little miracle worker. If you don’t have an aloe plant or need some gel to take on vacation with you, this is a great alternative.

These plants need more light than the snake plant but they can still tolerate low lighting. They do best in bright, indirect sunlight.

I bought this Aloe plant at Trader Joe’s in one of their little baby pots 2 years ago. Since then I’ve repotted it 3 times and this last time (2 months ago) I got 3 more plants out of it. Now I have 4 plants from that one tiny $3 baby plant from Traders and they’re all growing and healthy! Here’s a great article on how to propagate Aloe.

Or you can usually buy one at your local plant or home store or here.

If you’re a plant newbie, succulents are a great place to start. They’re cute, require very little maintenance, and as long as they have the proper soil and bright, indirect sunlight, they’ll thrive.
