There is a place where the sunrise looks like this. (deep breath, sigh)
7 Mile Beach in Grand Cayman is named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and it truly is stunning. The sand is soft and powdery and has a beautiful tan color that shifts throughout the day. The water is turquoise, clear, and calm making it perfect for floating, paddle boarding, snorkeling, and swimming. The temperature of the water is refreshing…not too hot, not too cold. The snorkeling is a 10/10. We saw so many interesting creatures including a barracuda, sting rays, a giant lobster, and schools of fish swimming around the reef just offshore. One afternoon, as we were paddleboarding and the sun was setting, turtles started swimming around us and popping their heads above the water. We could have stayed out there forever it was so dreamy.
And then there are the sunrises and sunsets. Technically you can’t see the sunrise on 7 Mile but it still lights up the sky and changes the color of the sand and water each day. And on special days like the one above, the clouds light up too and you can’t help but stand there and stare in awe. We woke up every day and walked on the beach and I became addicted to those sunrises. And then the sunsets. More spectacular than the rise because the sun disappears over the water. I still can’t get over how beautiful they are. The lighting alone makes your whole world feel like it’s turned into a sunset. Nothing is more important in that moment than feasting your eyes on these masterpieces. Art, that will only be appreciated in that moment, never to be seen again. Pictures can’t capture the true feeling.
Here are a few of our favorite places on 7 Mile:
Governer’s Beach: If you’re not staying on 7 Mile, this is a great beach to visit. Free parking and beach access and you’re within walking distance to restaurants and bathrooms. It’s better than Public Beach IMO because it’s not as crowded.
Coccoloba Bar: Outdoor Mexican restaurant at the Kimpton with stunning views and great food. And pretty good prices considering where you are.
Palm Heights: If I could pick where to stay and money wasn’t a factor, it would be here. This boutique hotel is gorgeous and is in the best location on 7 Mile. All the star eyes for this one. Check out their events calendar. While we were there they were doing free movie nights on their rooftop overlooking the ocean. And they served free candy and popcorn too. So much fun!
Tillie’s: This restaurant is attached to Palm Heights and is right on the beach. The setting is beyond beautiful. On Thursday they do a burger, lobster, and bubbles special that is a great price for what you get!
Ms. Piper’s: Another restaurant on 7 Mile (not on the water) that is artfully arranged and has delicious food. You can’t go wrong with this place.
