I realize that West Virginia is usually a pass-through state and not at the top of everyone’s destination list. But there are good reasons to reconsider! And Thomas is one of them. It is the CUTEST little town. If you love the mountains and quaint artsy towns with good coffee, Thomas, WV is for you! It’s located about an hour from the Dolly Sods Wilderness area and right next to Blackwater Falls State Park, and it’s well worth spending the afternoon venturing through.
Here are some of our favorite spots:
β£TipTop coffee. How does a tiny town in the middle of nowhere WV have a better coffee shop than Warwick, NY?! I will never understand. Try the lavender oat milk latte and the blueberry cream cheese pastry heated up!
β£Picnic. How does a tiny town in the middle of nowhere WV have a better Mexican restaurant than anywhere in the Hudson Valley?! Another thing my mind will always be confused by. Nonetheless, their tacos, bowls, plantains…and I’m sure all the other things I haven’t tried, are πππ.
β£Nellie Rose Textiles. The cutest little shop owned by artist Nellie. She makes her own clothes for sale here but also supports other makers and her selection is on point.
β£Creature Art Gallery. This place is weird. And I love it. I buy something every time I go.
β£Ella & Company Home Goods. The cutest home goods store. Thoughtfully curated and fun to look through.
β£BLOOM. ART. From all different types of artists. I always love browsing their collection and seeing what’s new and I usually have to hold myself back from buying a T-shirt.
β£Riverfront Wood Fired Pizza. Good pizza. I won’t complain about NY not having that π. But this pizza hits the spot when you have a hankering!
Honorable mention…get takeout at Picnic or Riverfront and head to Stumptown Ales in Davis (only 5 minutes away) and try the best sour you’ve ever had. Or grab a drink at the Billy Motel. Old-school vibes make you feel super classy even with a mocktail.
We are grateful for good friends who live close by and ones who have the COOLEST cabin in the mountains here and let us come and explore. If you’re looking for a place to stay….it should be HERE.
