matcha tea

Do you like matcha lattes? You can google search the benefits of matcha and see why it’s considered a superfood. I prefer to buy the powder unsweetened so I can add my own sweetener to it. And I always ask if it’s sweet when I’m ordering at a cafe because the sweetened powders are no bueno to me. They’re too much and kind of gross. But I love the earthy flavor of green tea so you may disagree with me there.

Here’s how I make my matcha at home:

·1 TSP Organic matcha powder. Make sure to buy one that is high quality and ceremonial grade. I’ve bought this one for years and love it.
·8 oz plant-based milk of choice. I prefer oat or soy. Non-GMO and organic of course.
·Sweetener of choice. I usually use about 1 TSP of honey but sometimes maple syrup.

Heat up your milk on the stove. At the same time heat some water in your electric kettle (this is just to pour a little into your matcha so you can blend it before adding your milk). I blend mine with this whisk but you can also use an electric one like this guy. I add a few tbs of water (just eyeball it) and then whisk for about a minute to make sure there are no clumps. I do this right in my mug so that all I have to do is add my milk and honey, stir, and voila…a match latte! (You don’t have to make a latte. You can just add water and make it like tea. But something about the latte makes it feel more like a treat.)

This is one of my favorite afternoon pick-me-ups that I have multiple times a week. Yum!
